Eye Spy Donut Game Challenge

<p>Touch is a HUGE part of enjoying food. The texture of how you feel the food can make a meal so delicious. In many cultures, eating food with your fingers is the only way to enjoy it. So...let’s get your texture training underway. Stretch those fingers because you are about to get a work-out!</p>
<h3>What You Will Need:</h3>
<p>Permission from an adult to do this craft and use the following items!</p>

Squishy Slime Challenge

<p>When you taste the zing of the pepperoni on your pizza, or the tartness of that lemony pastry, there’s more at work than just your taste buds. From sight to smell, all of your senses come into play when you’re feasting! Try this experiment to see how your tongue stacks up without one of your senses. Will you taste the difference?</p>
<h3>Try It:</h3>
<ul>
    <li>Ask a pal (or family member) to blindfold you before you bite into your next snack or meal (or just keep your eyes closed—no peeking, though!)</li>
    <li>Slowly take bites of the different foods in front of you. Let the food roll around in your mouth as you chew before swallowing.</li>
    <li>After you swallow, take a guess at what was in your mouth and SPECIFIC flavours you tasted.</li>
    <li>Have someone write down your thoughts, write them down yourself or use the record feature on your phone.</li>
    <li>At the end, take off your blindfold to see how you did! Did that bite of turkey taste like ham?</li>
    <li>Did you mistake a pear chunk for apple? You might be surprised at how different some of the most familiar foods can taste without seeing them first!</li>

Also feel INSPIRED to try bold and BONKERS flavours – spicy with some chilli flakes or tangy with some grapefruit. Get totally wild and maybe consider a cheese flavoured ice cream!! <p>Craving the classic campfire treat, but can’t get to the campsite just yet? No problem! This recipe will remind you of sweet summers spent by the fire. Plus, you’ll treat your senses with the crunchy and chewy texture of the snack. Texture is a big part of what makes eating fun—another foodie sensation!</p>

<li>Place three graham crackers in a resealable food storage bag and seal it up (let all of the air out, first).</li>
<li>Using a rolling pin, gently smash the crackers into small pieces.</li>

<p>Start by asking a friend or family member to blindfold you. Using the same suggested foods listed in the food detective challenge, feel each food (with clean hands) and guess what you’re touching. As you go through, think about how each one feels. Is it smooth? Is it wet or dry? Does it feel slimy or gritty?</p>
<p>At the end, see how well you did! Did you find this challenge easier or harder than the taste test? Touch plays a part in satisfying our senses when we chow down. The next time you’re at the dinner table, thank your senses for taking you on a flavour adventure!</p>

It’s time to plan and cook a meal for your family with the help of an adult. Think big, bold and BONKERS. Think about how the flavours can work together. Think about texture in the mouth and on the hands. Complete this challenge, and consider yourself the ultimate cook! Ready, set, go</p>
<ul>
<li>Plan the most bonkerific meal with your family. Everyone should help plan! Go online, look at recipe books, or old family recipes for inspiration and always think about flavours and senses.</li> 
<li>Now, bonkerize each course! For instance, if you’re making lasagna, you could replace the ground meat with roasted hot dog. Mmm … just like at camp.. er, maybe not! You get the idea. The idea is to shake up your taste buds by adding unexpected ingredients that have different textures, taste, and feel than what you’re used to!</li> 
<li>Make a shopping list and head to the store with an adult. When you get home, assign everyone to a task. An adult to handle the stove/oven, another person does food prep (washing and peeling), and another adult chops!</li> 
<li>Remember to clean as you go—it makes cooking a lot easier when dirty cutting boards aren’t in the way.</li> 
<li>Then when everything is ready, feast on your accomplishment! As you chow down, take note of the recipes you’d make again (or wouldn’t). Bon appétit!</li>

This is how you can let others experience the flavours and senses you have just brought to life. How?! Put your creative skills to use with your fam and give back to your community! Though it might look like there is never-ending food at the grocery store, not everyone has access to healthy and tasty meals. So why not do your part with this fun activity?</p>
<p>First, look up charities in your community looking for food donations in your local community. Once you narrow it down, ask what type of food items they’re looking for. Pick a day for your family to hold the drive, then start preparing! Make signs advertising your drive to hang around your neighbourhood. Remember to include the charity name and the types of foods needed. Next, decorate cardboard boxes for donation drop offs. Make fun, colourful foodie decorations to bring attention to the event—string up some soup can drawings, try making a “dry goods” banner! Then with an adult go door-to-door asking if your neighbours can contribute. Remember to always say it is for others in need and ALWAYS give a big BONKERS thank-you! Once the bins are full, celebrate meeting your goal with your family. You did it! Your amazing teamwork has made a difference in someone’s life—epic family challenge level unlocked!</p>
